Inn at Claggett Center – LEED® Management Services
TerraLogos is serving as the LEED coordinator to Zivic and Hurdle Architects for a new 65 room Inn at the Claggett Center, located in Buckeystown, Maryland. The Claggett Center, the Maryland Episcopal Diocese retreat center, is nestled amongst the rural landscape of Frederick County on a beautiful 256 acre site overlooking the Monocacy River Valley. A commitment to environmental stewardship and the protection of this landscape, that is vital to the health of the local and regional watershed, is the primary driver in the goal to achieve LEED certification for the Inn. The project team is currently evaluating several enhanced "green" features that could be incorporated into the Inn. One such feature is a system to collect rainwater, store it in an underground cistern, and then use this water to flush toilets. This system is currently being evaluated to determine the payback period and lifecycle cost.
The project team is also investigating a high-efficiency VAV or PTHP unit system instead of the industry standard of individual PTAC units in each room. The VAV system and PTHP units combined with a keycard system, to track occupancy, will greatly reduce the energy usage of the Inn and lower the operating expenses.
