Audubon MD/DC New Environmental Center in Patterson Park – Concept Design Proposal

TerraLogos is donating design services to Audubon Maryland-DC to create a new environmental center in Baltimore. The 70,000 SF site is located in Patterson Park, near the historic stables building currently functioning as a Department of Parks and Recreation service yard. All new construction is intended to operate “off the grid.”

Our proposed design looks at creating a destination center by organizing a central court entrance to the south of the existing stables. The historic stables structure will be converted into an administrative center. A new classroom and exhibit space designed as a Net Zero building will form the south edge of the center with views out over the community gardens and rolling landscape below. The existing garage structure will be deconstructed to serve as the framework for an outdoor classroom and volunteer staging area. The site will include pathways, extensive habitat restoration, and pocket gardens to create a unique and rich learning environment in the center of Baltimore City.
