Audubon MD/DC Patterson Park Center Desogn Charrette

Client: Audubon Society of MD/DC
Project Location: Patterson Park Baltimore, Maryland
Completion: 2012

This project proposes a new environmental center for Audubon MD/DC located in the northwest corner of Baltimore’s Patterson Park. The proposed concept includes converting the historic stables structure currently used as office and storage as a centerpiece of the new Audubon Center. The approximately 70,000 SF site will be developed to operate “off the grid” while integrating demonstration gardens and habitat restoration throughout the complex. The project is currently in the initial information gathering phase and the design conceptual phase.

Environmental Design Features:

The TerraLogos scheme looks at creating a destination center by organizing a central court with a gated entrance to the south of the existing Stables. A new classroom and exhibit space designed as a “Net Zero” building across the central lawn/garden will form the south edge of the center with views out over the community gardens and rolling landscape below. The garage storage shed will be partially deconstructed to allow for an outdoor classroom space and volun- teer staging area with pathways and pocket gardens as infill to create a unique and rich learn- ing environment.
